These recycled ocean plastic litter pickers were designed as a concept to demonstrate circular economy solutions and to inspire and enable people to take positive action against plastic pollution.
Waterhaul developed the idea whilst conducting beach cleans and recovering ghost gear along the Cornish coastline. It didn’t make sense to them that non-recyclable virgin plastic was being formed to construct the equipment used by individuals who take direct action against the plastic pollution crisis. Instead, wouldn’t beach cleans feel more inspired and hopeful if the equipment was constructed from the very ocean plastic material they were intercepting?
The litterpickers are produced in two variants; folding and stand fixed full length. Both units feature a handle, trigger and jaw made from Waterhaul’s 100% recycled plastic from fishing nets and lines. The grabbers also feature a magnetic tip for easy collection of bottle caps and small metal objects.
- Folding Litter Picker
The folding units were designed to be portable and carried in your backpack ready to inspire you to take positive individual action whenever, where ever. Due to their compact folded size, these units enable us to bypass the oversize courier charges associated with the standard units – which previously was a bottleneck to equipping individuals at scale. This model folds out to a length of 66cm (26″) which provides an adequate reach requiring most adult users to bend just an inch or two when picking items.
- Standard Litter Picker
Our standard litter pickers are full length at 82cm (32″) and suitable for continuous use, taller individuals or those not wishing to bend to pick up, and are the hardest wearing option favoured by volunteer groups (but both models are built to last!).
Recycled ocean plastic components
The handles, triggers and jaws contain 0% virgin plastics, 100% recycled fishing nets that were collected from end-of-life net amnesty schemes, beach cleans and dive based ghost gear recoveries. By creating equipment to inspire and enable action against plastic pollution, we can multiply the overall positive impact: waste fishing gear is collected and recycled to produce the product itself, but with your help, it can go on to remove much more plastic from the environment.
For larger orders we can create bespoke lengths, colour ways and branding for partners. Please contact us to learn more.
